Stora Fjälletrundan has become a classic
among the trails in the area. It combines cultural and historical
environments, rocky pine forest and dark forest lakes on
an exciting way. So fill up your thermos and get going with
hiking boots and set off on a beautiful trip!
The trail passes through the heart of the Stora Fjället nature reserve
and you can easily connect to several other trails if you want to build
on your hike. You will pass traces of crofting life, old
cellars and house foundations, shimmering green spruce forest, and fragrant
rocky pine forest. Occasionally you will pass small lakes and ponds,
or tärnar as we call them here in Tiveden. In the area there are many
old lying trees, so-called dead wood. These are still full of life
as they have become home to fungi, lichens, mosses and caterpillars. The forest is so
much more than the trees. It is a wealth of species, smells, sounds, light and life.
The easiest way to reach Stora Fjälletrundan is to park at Stora
Ormahålan or Tingsjöarna. The terrain is relatively hilly and
some parts are quite steep, which means that the difficulty
slightly above average. At the lake Stora Ormahålan there is a small
shelter and barbecue area.
