Hiking

Fjällåsenrundan

2.5 km

Another little gem among the beautiful trails of Stora Fjället. Parts of the trail are often described as a Tiveden National Park in

miniature. Just a few hundred meters from the parking lot, you enter a hall of huge spruces and pines that, together with the shimmering green moss and the huge boulders, transport you to the world of trolls. Fjällåsenrundan is not one of the longest trails in the area, but the 2.5 kilometers will certainly make you relax and let your thoughts fly away. In the wetter parts it spreads

green moss carpet spreads out and here the old spruces thrive at their best. On the dry and barren heights, where the last ice age ground the mountain peaks into smooth rocks, the pine has found its place.

The trail starts and ends at the Stora Ormahålan parking lot. Just east of the parking lot, by the lake, there is also a small shelter with a barbecue area. Lake Ormahålan is a so-called dead ice pit. It was formed after a large piece of a glacier was left lying and surrounded by inflowing sediment. When this large piece of ice then melted, it left behind the hollow that forms the dead ice pit. Fjällåsenrundan connects to several trails in the nature reserve and you can easily "build on" your hike with more experiences. For example, through Granviksleden (blue) or Stora Fjälletrundan (orange).
