The Finnerödja parish lies on the border of the landscapes Närke and Varmland. This border area is very old and there have been hiking trails here since Viking times, and perhaps even further back.

Finnerödja had previously large strawberry plantations. Today there are several small industries. The name Finnerödja originates from the 1580s when a large immigration from Savo-Finnish people from eastern Finland took place. So-called Svedjefinnar worked in the forest by burning it and then sown rye.
